STEAM Centre

STEAM education centres are growing in importance as efforts are underway to integrate training and education, across the science and art disciplines. It is in recognition of the value of creativity in the development of new ideas and solutions. STEAM is a cross-disciplinary approach of instruction and learning that attempts to resemble real life and real work. For example, the study of architecture exemplifies how science and art come together through learning, to enable the design of complex buildings.

Sault Ste. Marie’s proposed centre is to be located within the building that currently houses the Candian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Maker’s North and the local office of Science North. Its location is to be in the original 1928 aircraft hangar, where aircraft, radio equipment and other technological advancements were made from the 1920’s through to the 1980’s.  We have created two new entrance pavilions, that include services such as offices and washroom, not available in the existing hangar, plus renovated the existing interior of the hangar for this project.
