The original home was built in 1906 for the then President of Algoma Steel, Mr. Charles Franz.
The 4500 square foot home was brought back to past grandeur by completely gutting it down to the bare studs, insulated, all new period matching double hung thermal windows provided and new finishes and fixtures throughout.
The existing oak and birch flooring was lifted and cut into to provide new wiring, piping and ductwork. It was replaced with 200 year old wanut, brought fom the bottom of the Ottawa River by divers, kin dried over five years and cut into new 1" thick flooring.
All of the doors were stripped down to bare wood and finished complete with the refurbished existing hardware.
During the course of the renovation, the Master Bathroom was doubled in size, as well as significant expansion to the kitchen, a sixth bedroom and fifth new bathroom, provided as well, as a significant reworking of the rooms into a more functional plan.
