The original church is too small for its growing congregation and an addition was required to meet present and future needs.
The original building uses a centre axis sanctuary and therefore if made longer, (although the simplest solution), the altar would be placed too far from that back of the congregation. Additionally, the existing building has a large open glass area at each end that posed glare problems. Mr. Ellis' solution was to provide a new addition at the side of the existing building and rearrange the pews and alter at ninety degrees from the original plan. This affords a closer relationship between the congregation and the altar and allowed us to solve the glare issues associated with the existing configuration.
